Sales and the 'Talent Magnet'

A lot is written about being a ‘Talent Magnet’, either as a company, or as President. It’s all good practice – listen, mentor, reward, provide clear goals and career maps. Good practice for the employer, but what about the employee?

What is the most powerful locking solution?

A mechanical lock is usually much harder to violate than an electronic lock such as magnetic or an electro-mechanical lock, but electronic locking solutions provide more flexibility and convenience.

“CLIQ is a technology that brings together and integrates the very best of electronics and mechanics. It combines proven mechanical ABLOY PROTEC locking solutions with low-power electronics. The mechanical lock guarantees physical security, while the micro-electronics provide flexibility and a unique electronic key code for every lock.”

Preface
I’m quite sure that most of us have seen in one movie or the other, someone trying to break into some firm, facility or villa by several means such as copying the key using a sponge or tampering with the security panel and these actions sometimes become real.
We all want a perfect security system that is using an impossible-to-break keys and locks.
This article discusses strengths and weaknesses of common locking systems and introduces the ultimate locking solution yet: Protec CLIQ by ABLOY.

Electro-Mechanical Locks Drawbacks

We all know that electronic locking solutions are easier to control access of users and visitors that a key and a cylinder but professionals in security also know that it has many more security threats than a solid padlock or cylinder!

No matter what the electronic locking solution is, they are all common in one thing, the final “open signal” is transferred using a power cable from some controller to the lock, either through the ceiling, through the door frame or through the door it self. This cable could run as far as 50 meters and therefore it’s relatively exposed and often much easier to attack than a mechanical lock.

Not only intentional attacks are a source of security threats, but also accidents such as fire.
During a fire, cables carrying data are mostly exposed to the danger of being cut and when that happens, the lock goes out of control and it must remain at a constant state: either “locked” preventing people from going out, or “Always Open” potentially exposing the facility to loose very important assets.

The Bitterer option

On the other hand, choosing to secure your facility with the old fashioned mechanical key and cylinder or pad lock is quite painful and very much less convenient, for example, what happens if an employee reports a stolen key? Or what will the security manager do if he whishes to prevent access for particular personnel or during particular times? There is no doubt that the facility protected by a mechanical locking system will remain exposed at a certain level to unauthorized access or else it will be inconvenient and/or expensive to control the access.

The Magical Solution

What if we imagine a locking solution to gather all the advantages of all the available options and get rid of all the disadvantages? A solution that will operate using the hard-to-break key and cylinder, yet it gives the security manager the ability to prevent access to the facility in weekends, but most importantly, do all that without connecting any cables to any locks or any controllers! And strangely with no batteries to change in the cylinder either!

Such a solution is not an imaginary one, in fact, Protec CLIQ technology by ABLOY is a technology that brings together and integrates the very best of electronics and mechanics. It combines proven mechanical ABLOY PROTEC locking solutions with low-power electronics. The mechanical lock guarantees physical security, while the micro-electronics provide flexibility and a unique electronic key code for every lock.

How So?

Protec CLIQ cylinders incorporate a low-power integrated chips that receives power from the battery installed in the Protec CLIQ key attempting to open it. The key is also equipped with an integrated chip of the same technology. When the key is inserted in the cylinder, the physical contact is accomplished, the cylinder circuit is powered up and The authorization data are exchanged between the key and the cylinder.

So What?

Protec CLIQ doesn’t only utilize the best of both mechanical and electronic worlds, but also massively levitates the security level so high that it becomes theoretically impossible to break the lock. This is simply because Protec CLIQ cylinders turns and opens only if it matches the key’s BOTH mechanical as well as electronic combinations!

This practically means that even if a duplicate of the mechanical key matches the cylinder combination, the encrypted electronic tag will still prevent the cylinder from turning and opening.

Protec CLIQ uses a sophisticated encryption algorithm, utilizing a very long encryption key (64 bits); moreover, it’s an alternating one, making it impossible to read out the tag of the key even if advanced electronic equipment is used to try to do that.

Master keying using Protec technology is very powerful, but by uniting it with the CLIQ technology, Protec CLIQ became extremely powerful and totally customizable without compromising any security aspect.

Summary

In short, Protec CLIQ gives the user and the manager everything they want and takes away everything they hate about security. Making it the ultimate choice when the maximum levels of security as well as convenience are desired.
